Darlene's orange tree is four and a half feet high and very healthy! When she told co-workers that she was not taking it home with her, many of us cast covetous eyes upon it. In order to decide who should be honoured with the gift of the orange tree, a contest was declared:
" A Contest: if you want to inherit Darlene's orange tree, tell why you should, in 50 words or less. You can send your entry to Lori or Sylvia. If we have enough by tomorrow at the luncheon, Darlene will look them over and pick a winner!"
The winner was Lonni Sexton with her heartfelt haikus:
Homeless orange tree!
I weep for your loneliness!
Darlene forsook you!
Orange blossoms fall,
Like tear drops unseen. Alas!
Who will water me?
Sigh not for Darlene!
Now she can sleep until noon!
Her tree is bitter.
